Mr. Chender K. Baljee is the Chairman & Managing Director of Royal Orchid Hotels Limited and has more than four decades of experience in the hospitality industry.
The group currently operates 47 hotels in 33 cities across India. Renowned for attention to detail and design, Royal Orchid Hotels operate in a wide spectrum, ranging from business hotels that are luxurious 5-stars to economy business hotels.
The number of total managed properties of the group more than doubled in the last 4 years, growing from 21 to 47.
With 10 more hotels opening in Nashik, Belgaum, Goa Ooty, Srinagar, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Somnath, Lucknow & Varanasi under the brand name of Regenta Hotels; the group is expected to be operating 56 hotels in 39 cities by the end of 2018.
Mr. Baljee has been recently featured in the IIM Ahmedabad book “Stay Hungry Stay Foolish” which chronicles the rise of 25 entrepreneurs. He is an active member of the All India Management Association, the Greater Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Mr. Baljee graduated from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad in 1972, and started his career with the family’s hotel business in Shimla. He wanted to take up challenges on his own and moved to Bangalore to pitch for hotels.
He started with running and finally purchasing Hotel Harsha in 1988. In 2001, he launched The Royal Orchid Hotel, the company’s flagship hotel.
The company went for an IPO in 2006 and the IPO was 40 times oversubscribed. Today, Royal Orchids owns four hotels in Bangalore and one in Mysore.
Mr. Baljee’s main recreational activity is the annual family holiday.
