Anuranjita Kumar, Managing Director and Head of HR for International Hubs, The Royal Bank of Scotland

With a career in HR spanning over 25 years, Anuranjita Kumar is known as a HR transformation leader focused on building the strategic capabilities of employees, global talent management and in cultivating a shared and vibrant corporate culture. Through her career, she has always found herself at the helm of transformations, and grooming leaders for the future. She has gained immense credibility through her role in corporate turnarounds during the downturn ecosystem through innovation.

As the Managing Director and Head of HR for International Hubs at RBS, Anuranjita (Anu, as she is known in the industry), has been instrumental in setting up a transformational turnaround through a vibrant Employee Value Proposition. In a year’s time the franchise has seen all time high Engagement Index (86%) and Leadership Index (81%) and Inclusion index 12 points beyond the Global Financial Services norm. International hubs franchise has also received many industry accolades for significant achievements on the People agenda. PCI Top 50 by Jombay and Diversity Leader by SHRM.

Anu’s thought leadership on LGBT+ inclusion has resulted in RBS India rolling out workplace policies to support the community, much before Section-377 was de-criminalised! Some of the gender-oriented policies and initiatives implemented have also been industry moving ones, WIT is a great example of that.

Prior to RBS, Anuranjita Kumar was earlier the Chief Human Resource Officer and Head, Citi South Asia. Here she has worked across multiple geographies including Europe, Middle East North America (NAM), Asia Pacific and Africa and has witnessed times of both prosperity and austerity when she headed HR for Corporate and Investment Banking in Europe as well as later; the staffing and Developmental role out of New York or as Senior HR advisor for Private Bank in Singapore.

Anu is the Chairperson of the America India Foundation, India, Advisory board member of SHRM India, Director on the RBSIPL board as well as on the RHEG board of the new upcoming Plaksha University.  She has also been recognized as amongst the ‘Most Powerful Woman Leaders’ by Fortune in 2013 and South Asia council for Women -UK to name a few.

Over the years, she has been actively engaged as an executive coach for senior executives across the industry as well as the ‘start-up ecosystem’. Anu is extremely committed to spearheading diversity and inclusions initiatives. She is also the author of the bestselling book “Can I have it all?” and is currently on her journey to publish her second book on Ethnicity.

She is a management graduate from XLRI, specializing in Human Resources. She attended Welhams Girls School and is a gold medallist and topper in industrial psychology from Delhi University. Anuranjita is also a certified diver. She is keenly involved in volunteering with underprivileged children and enjoys spending time with her family. An avid reader and an equally passionate writer, she ensures she constantly connects with students to deep-dive into, in her words ‘the newness of thoughts and ideas’.
